Pathway to College Seminar
 for
Parents and Students

The purpose of this two and one-half hour seminar is to give parents and students an understanding of what leads up to and what is involved in the college application process and to provide a pathway through this process.  This information is presented from the viewpoint of both an educator and a parent who has had three children attend college.
College admission has become very competitive.  Grades, SAT/ACT scores, and extracurricular activities are all playing an enormous part of the application process.  Most students and parents do not understand many of the facts that are involved in this process.  For example...did you know that a student actually has only five semesters to "set" their GPA?...or there is the frequently heard question, "When should my student start taking the SAT/ACT?"  These questions and others will be addressed at this seminar.
The following focus is the basis of this seminar and will be presented in detail as to how it can be applied from the 9th through the 12th grade:

Research
Essays
Applications
Portfolio
